Tain is Scotland's oldest Royal Burgh and has something for everyone. It is steeped in history with stunning scenery, magnificent architecture, abundant wildlife and plenty of sporting and leisure activities.

Mansfield Castle provides the perfect venue for exploring and touring the Highlands. We are less than an hour from Inverness just off the main A9 just before Glenmorangie Distillery and the other Royal Burgh of Dornoch. For the golfer, you will be spoilt with the famous Royal Dornoch Links course, and courses in Tain, Golspie, Brora, Helmsdale Golf Course, Durness Golf Club, The Carnegie Club at Skibo Castle, Royal Dornoch Struie Golf Course, Bonar Bridge/Ardgay Golf Club, Alness Golf Club and Invergordon to name just a few!

It is also a fishing paradise with hundreds of lochs all holding wild brown trout. Aside from the lochs there is a good choice of salmon rivers with a chance of sea trout, too.

All along the coasts there are beautiful and safe beaches usually surrounded by dramatic hills and links golf courses. The firths of Cromarty and Moray are a haven for wildlife and as well as the friendly bottlenose dolphin you have the opportunity to see common and grey seals, harbour porpoise, minke whale, puffins, gannet, razorbills, black and common guillemot, herons, fulmars, terns, swans, kittiwakes, falcons and many varieties of duck. There are at least 1,200 common seals and 100 grey seals. You can distinguish between them, because the common seal has a dog like face and the grey seal has a roman shaped nose.

Inverness is a great place to visit whether for some retail therapy at the many specialist retailers located in The Old Town or in the large Eastgate I and II shopping centres. Products on display include outdoor clothing and equipment, traditional knitwear, books, music and crafts from all over Scotland. You'll also find many shops selling traditional goods, including food and drink products, kilts and tartan goods, jewellery, ornaments and local artwork.
